Mailberg
The market town of Mailberg is a widely known wine-growing village, nestled in a valley basin surrounded by its vineyards. Excellent wines, especially Grüne Veltliner, mature here with a very individual character.
The four romantic wine cellar lanes (one is a listed building) with their well-kept press houses, not far from the village center, invite you to take a stroll.
Mailberg was mentioned in documents as early as 1055. Mailberg Castle is the oldest property of the Order of Malta in Austria and has been in permanent possession of the Order since 1146. The historic premises are now home to a 4* castle hotel.
The wooded Buchberg (416m) with its still intact nature offers the opportunity for relaxing hikes, away from mass tourism and noise. worth seeing are the castle grounds, the Kunigundenkirche (15th century) with its high cemetery and magnificent panoramic view of the knightly market town of Mailberg.
The new wine cellar lane Rosenpoint is open daily from April to October.
Wine tastings and wine sales are available in the Schlossvinothek, in the Weingalerie Hagn, as well as directly from the Mailberg winegrowers by appointment.
