Inspired by English gardens, a love of the Orient and cool water
The Wannemacher family's property is situated on a hill in the vineyards near Bockfließ Castle. A garden was formed from a bare settlement plot, previously cultivated as a field. Over the course of time, it has changed again and again and adapted to personal needs. "Friends and acquaintances were so enthusiastic that they motivated us to open the garden to interested garden visitors. The first step was the "Nature in the Garden" badge. As gardening enthusiasts, we learned about organic cultivation through numerous visits to other show gardens, which we have gradually implemented," says Michaela Wannemacher.
The fig trees have been enjoying the south-facing view for years and overlook the Marchfeld. Many plants climb and grow upwards, adapting to the size of the manageable garden, so to speak. To the west, trees provide protection from the wind and the hot summer sun. English-style perennial beds line the lawn and enchant with their flowers. A large vegetable patch and the children's ground trampoline had to make way for the natural pool. It has now become an oasis of rest, relaxation and balance and makes it easy to forget everyday life.
Roses, supported by obelisks, are focal points for pausing. Fruit trees and berries delight the palate of those with a sweet tooth. A now rather small raised bed in front of the kitchen door provides the family with fresh herbs and salad. By using old and natural materials, care is taken to implement a little of the permaculture concept. For example, old bricks that were saved from being shredded were turned into something new.
