Schütt und kleine Schütt

Popis

The Schütt and Kleine Schütt are among the most impressive natural sites in the Waldviertel. Just a few kilometers from Rappottenstein, the Kleine Kamp winds its way through a narrow valley characterized by huge granite rocks. The approximately 500-metre-long section of the river is a natural monument and shows the diversity of the region's landscape in a particularly pristine way.

Tranquillity and wildness meet here: moss-covered stones, the amber-brown water of the Kamp and scattered boulders create a changing landscape. When the sun shines, the river sparkles golden, at low tide it almost disappears under the rocks - an impressive example of the power and changeability of nature.

The striking rock formations of the Schütt were created by the weathering of wool sacks, a geological development that has lasted for millions of years. Water, frost and time shaped the once sharp edges into the round granite blocks that characterize the Schütt today. A rare mixed deciduous forest also grows on the northern rocky slope, rounding off the natural experience.

The Schütt and Kleine Schütt are easily accessible via hiking trails around Rappottenstein and are a worthwhile destination for anyone who wants to discover the Waldviertel off the beaten track - quiet, pristine and unspoiled.
