Statzendorf: a wine-growing village with a long tradition
The area was settled very early on, as evidenced by finds from the Hallstatt period and the early Stone Age. Wine can also look back on an ancient tradition here: the "Situla von Kuffern" is a Celtic wine bucket dating back to the 5th century BC. The archaeological treasure was unearthed in 1891 and is on display in the Natural History Museum in Vienna. Today, the famous Kufferner Situla wines are served in the wine taverns and wineries of Statzendorf.
Sights in Statzendorf
Worth seeing are the late Baroque parish church in Statzendorf, the branch church of St. Pancratius in Kuffern, the pilgrimage chapel in Maria Elend and lovingly designed shrines with reverse glass paintings. In Absdorf there is the impressively large chapel of St. Helena, built before 1500.
