Pfarrkirche Plankenstein / Maria Schnee

Kostel

Popis

Plankenstein did not have its own church for a long time. The castle chapel was built around 1400. A benefice was established in 1453 and belonged to the parish of Kirnberg/Mank. It was not until 1786 that it became a local church and the chapel room was extended.

Worth mentioning are the valuable secco paintings depicting the 12 apostles, which date back to the 16th century. The castle chapel is dedicated to "Maria Schnee". It only became a parish in 1842. After the Second World War, the castle fell into disrepair and a new parish church was built above the castle between 1950 and 1952.

The church was built according to the plans of Viennese architect Josef Friedl. The baroque high altar shows the miraculous image of "Maria Schnee".
