Haugsdorf
Haugsdorf was first mentioned in documents in 1108 and was granted market rights in 1357. The municipal area covers 21.5 km2 with the villages of Haugsdorf, Auggenthal, Jetzelsdorf and Kleinhaugsdorf. The population of the municipality is around 1,600 inhabitants plus 300 secondary residents.
Haugsdorf lies 204 m above sea level. The highest elevation is the Hutberg at 296 m. The municipality of Haugsdorf is known for its red wine, which is particularly appreciated by connoisseurs. The Haugsdorf market coat of arms with a pewter-crowned tower on a hill planted with vines indicates the village's long association with wine.
The wine cellars exude a unique romance. Many beautiful, well-marked hiking trails and cycle paths, including the "Poltweg", lead you through the numerous vineyards on the slopes of the Pulkau valley. Particularly worth mentioning is the ÖKO hiking trail laid out on the Hutberg, where you can experience the centuries-long development of viticulture and the work in the vineyards over the course of the year in nature itself as well as on beautifully designed display boards.
Another attraction is the trail named after the painter Franz von Zülow. This hiking trail has 16 stations with motifs by the painter. Franz von Zülow lived and worked in Haugsdorf for several years. The 1st Weinviertel Adventure Trail - Places of Power and Energy is located in the village of Auggenthal. The atmospheric place invites you to linger and relax.
A special highlight is the Wine Festival Art & Wine in the Kellertrift Haugsdorf, where art lovers can not only enjoy the exhibitions and readings by renowned artists and authors, but can also combine them with the enjoyment of exquisite wines.
The Jetzelsdorf wine church and vinotheque is used as a communication center, for events and private celebrations and has become a Euregio wine experience point.
