Popis
Liechtenstein Castle is very different from other castles and palaces in Austria. It is Austria's only ancestral castle of a ruling princely house.
Built in 1130 by Hugo von Liechtenstein, the castle was owned by Liechtenstein until 1295 and passed out of the family through a marriage contract. It was not until 1807 that Prince Johann Josef I von und zu Liechtenstein bought the castle again, which has been in the possession of the Princes of Liechtenstein ever since and has been a museum since 1812.
The castle is the ancestral home of the Princes of Liechtenstein and is home to unique architecture, including Romanesque and Historicist styles. Set in this period, the castle is unique in Austria's castle landscape and at the same time bears witness to the Liechtenstein princes' desire for representation in the 19th century.
From the large tower, you can enjoy an impressive view of more than 70 km.
