Popis
Tip/Fun Fact: Via the waterway, two of the largest protected areas around Vienna are connected: The Schwechat, the largest river in the BPWW, flows into the Danube, which also runs through the Danube-Auen National Park.
The overall 39 km circular hike "Stories from the Vienna Woods. The hiking trail" tells in two landscape-wise varied stages about the cultural and historical significance of this special region in the middle of the Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve.
The start of the 1st stage is in Baden and leads over the often-sung romantic "little path in the Helenental" along the Schwechat to Alland, where the 2nd stage returns over Heiligenkreuz and Siegenfeld back to Baden.
Excursion destinations, such as those in the imperial city Baden, the Heiligenkreuz monastery, or the Mayerling Carmelite, are just some of the many highlights, which at a total of 35 stations are described with interesting anecdotes by the author Gabriele Hasmann.
Connoisseurs will definitely come to their account on this hike, as there are not only many idyllic places but also several traditional hosts inviting to linger and culinary enjoyment.
Kids, watch out! Families can expect three very special "sniffer rounds" along the circular hike. These shorter circular paths, adapted for children, each starting from Baden, Heiligenkreuz, and Alland, delight playfully with exciting discoveries around the "Stories from the Vienna Woods".

Popis trasy Stories from the Vienna Woods. The hiking trail - Stage 1
Starting from the Thermal Beach Bath Baden (marking 40), the first mountain stage to the Rauheneck ruins, built in the 12th century, is immediately ahead of us. After about 350 m heading south, we leave path no. 40 to the right and shortly thereafter pass the impressive and also archaeologically interesting King's Cave, before entering the WWW 04, which leads us back down into the Helenental. The following, almost flat path (green, no. 40) along the Schwechat river leads us upstream past the Cholera Chapel and the Krainer hut to Sattelbach. From here, we follow the red marking to Mayerling, where we turn left onto the Via Sacra (01, 04) and after about 500 m turn right onto a meadow path to reach Alland. Along the entire route, information boards about Crown Prince Rudolf accompany us.
