Detaily pro: 1st Vienna Water Pipeline Route - Section 2

Krátký popis

We owe this beautiful hiking path to the construction of the 1st Vienna High Spring Water Pipeline in 1873. To utilize the gradient for the valuable drinking water from the source in the Rax-Scheeberg area to Vienna, it was "divided" over the entire length. Accordingly, the hiking path is flat. Noticeable inclines and declines, except in the urban area of Baden – and even here not significant – do not exist.

Popis

Tip/Fun fact: In 1998, this path was laid out directly along the pipeline route to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the 1st Vienna High Spring Water Pipeline. Every year in September, the traditional Genussmeile (pleasure mile) takes place here, with direct wine tasting in the vineyard.

The hiking path along the 1st Vienna High Spring Water Pipeline consists of 2 sections, each designed as a day route. The path leads along the most beautiful sections of the pipeline route. The first section of the 1st Vienna Water Hiking Path starts in Kaiserbrunn. The second section starts in Bad Vöslau.

Popis trasy 1st Vienna Water Pipeline Route - Section 2

We start our route in Bad Vöslau on a meadow path. The first section runs parallel to the Doktor-Robert-Schlumberger-Weg. We immediately notice that wine constantly accompanies us, which is evident not only from the path names and the vineyards we walk through but also from the numerous wine taverns. We are on the Genussmeile of the spa region. After about an hour, we reach Baden, where the path is not marked within the urban area. We come from Wasserleitungsstraße, pass by Helenen Cemetery, walk under the aqueduct after the Steinbruchgasse, and reach the Baden beach after the Hildegard Bridge. We continue over Schlossgasse and Marchetstraße to the casino. Now we follow Kaiser-Franz-Ring until we turn left into Welzergasse and immediately right into Trostgasse, which we follow until Flamminggasse. There we turn left and then right onto Schiestlstraße. From here, it's about 100 m until we are back on the High Spring Water Pipeline path. Our next destination is Gumpoldskirchen. On this 5 km-long section, we have an elevation change of exactly 5 m, so we walk practically flat.

The well-known wine town with its wine taverns offers numerous refreshment options. Nobody has to go thirsty on this hiking path. If wine doesn't appeal to you, there are multiple opportunities to refresh yourself at fountains with cool spring water. We leave Gumpoldskirchen heading north and now must cross the state road, which is heavily trafficked on weekends. Afterwards, it continues in the same tone, always nicely flat. After about 1 km, we have the last opportunity to refill our water bottle before reaching Mödling.
