Enns-Danube cycle route

For recreational cyclists on both sides of the Lower Austrian and Upper Austrian state border, the "over-across" river part offers a varied round trip. On mainly little trafficked side roads and paths, the respective river side can be changed according to desire and mood. Ten bridges offer ideal opportunities to "look" across the river. The path is signposted on both sides.

The varied route follows the Enns cycle path and the Danube cycle path. Upon arriving at Wallsee, the cycle route continues through the Mostviertel to Strengberg, Haag and back to the starting point. The cycle route is signposted on both sides and equally recommended.

Route course: Kleinraming-Ramingdorf/Steyr-Haidershofen/Dietach-Ernsthofen/Kronstorf-St. Valentin/Thurnsdorf-Ennsdorf/Enns-Pyburg/Mauthausen-St.Pantaleon Erla/Naarn-Wallsee/Mitterkirchen – Strengberg-Haag-Ramingdorf

The start of the cycling route is the church square in Kleinraming. The town is crossed by the Ramingbach, the namesake of the valley, with further orientation downstream towards Steyr. On the Lower Austrian side, continue to Ramingdorf, along the Enns river heading north towards Haidershofen. Along the Enns, it is possible to cross several times between Lower Austria and Upper Austria.

On the southwest slopes, Behamberg is visible; the town lies on a hill (about 2 km off the route) and offers a wonderful view over the entire cycling route. Especially for children, a visit to the adventure playground "Behambiland" is worthwhile.

Haidershofen, drive directly to the town center near the bank building. E-bikes can be charged at the local inn. Turn left at the town square and follow the Enns reservoir for 2 km towards Hainbuch. Shortly after the "Dorf an der Enns" stop, there is a crossing opportunity (Staning hydroelectric power plant). Continue along the railway towards Loderleiten and thus into the municipality of Ernsthofen.

Ernsthofen, between the Enns and the Loderleiten to the reservoir to the next Enns hydroelectric power plant. The cycle path passes one of Austria's largest substations. Another crossing is possible over the power plant bridge. Staying on the Lower Austrian side, continue northwards, with an impressive river landscape along the Enns reservoir. Passing the Seebuffet Krieger to Rubring.

From Rubring, continue northwards through the four small districts Thurnsdorf, Gollensdorf, Wimm and Kötting. In Thurnsdorf, there is the possibility for a detour to St. Valentin. After Thurnsdorf, there is an option to ride to Kronstorf via the Enns dam. After Kötting, go under the motorway to Ennsdorf.

Ennsdorf – Enns – the historic Enns bridge still separates Enns and Ennsdorf today; ride over this bridge along the Enns river and the Ennshafen economic area to the confluence of the Enns into the Danube.

St. Pantaleon – district Pyburg. Cross the Enns canal via the newly constructed cycling bridge "Radlbruck" and continue on the Danube cycle path towards St. Pantaleon. Here opens a magnificent view into the cultural landscape of the Mostviertel; in good weather, the Ötscher mountain is visible.

Passing the former legion camp and newly discovered Roman fort Stein, continue to St. Pantaleon and then Erla (on the Danube cycle path). Along the impressive floodplain landscape of the Moststraße back towards the Danube to Wallsee. The Moststraße opens up the largest continuous pear orchard area of Europe, passing numerous four-sided farms, cider producers, cider taverns and Moststraße hosts.

From the Wallsee-Mitterkirchen power plant, the route leads over the old arm bridge into Wallsee's town center. Before the ascent, there is a view of the imposing Wallsee castle, which is still inhabited by the descendants of the Habsburgs. Continue through the historic town center (Roman world Wallsee). Continue uphill towards Sindelburg, with a wonderful view. A short section on the B1 into the municipality of Strengberg. (Signposting Enns-Danube cycling route)

In the district of Kroisbach, continue to Kleinhaag, then into the town center of Strengberg. At Hotel Vösenhuber turn off the B1 towards Musterharten, then turn right uphill past Lehof towards Haag.

From Haag, continue to follow the signposting towards Vestenthal, Ramingdorf and then back to the starting point Kleinraming.
