Starting from the information board in Schönbach (near Raiffeisenbank), the hike leads northeast, then past the church along the farm road towards Pernthon and after a few hundred meters turns left to the Geitenschlag farms, where the first rest area is located. Subsequently, the hike gently ascends along a hollow path through meadows and forests with views of impressive rock formations. You follow the path for about 100 meters to the state road, then turn right again towards Edelbach to the Roman Bridge, where another rest area awaits you. Along the forest edge, you go to the Lohnmühle, and from here again on the state road towards Rappottenstein until the junction of the hiking route. Here you can enjoy a real natural spectacle after a short break! From here you follow the stream upwards, gently rising, until the rest area at the end of the Lohnbach waterfalls. A special feature is the Stone Chamber: a cave where, according to folklore, traveling tinsmiths stayed during their work and travels. Then continue on the Zellersteig, crossing the stream over a small wooden bridge to the left, uphill through the forest to the Lohnhöhe with the Stone Bründl – according to legend, a footprint of the Virgin Mary – a cup-shaped stone that is constantly filled with water and is supposed to have healing effects (also visit the impressive pilgrimage church Maria Rast in Schönbach at the end of your hike). At the Lohnhöhe, turn left and enjoy the panoramic view of Schönbach! In the town center of Lohn, it goes uphill again to the guesthouse “Zum Steinernen Bründl” and then left through forests. Here you follow the MTB route to the Kitzlermühle, hike along the farm road to Lengau and back to Schönbach. At parking lot 92a, there is another starting point to visit the Lohnbach waterfalls in a shorter circuit.
A22 and S5 or S33 to Krems, then continue on B3 in Weißenkirchen in the Wachau, turn right to Ottenschlag, in Ottenschlag head towards Bad Traunstein, in Bad Traunstein go straight towards Schönbach.
A secured path leads through the Lohnbachfall. The walkway is very slippery and therefore dangerous when covered with snow and ice! Proceed at your own risk.
After rainfall or during snowmelt, the waterfalls sometimes swell significantly!
