Popis
The construction of the Way of the Cross began in 1622 by Cardinal Franz v. Dietrichstein after a year of plague, when he had a chapel dedicated to St. Sebastian built on the plateau and a free-standing bell tower in 1636. This chapel was rebuilt in 1679 as the Church of St. Sebastian in the form of a Greek cross with a dome and enlarged in 1717 with the addition of a sacristy.
The Way of the Cross begins at the top of the hill with the first chapel "Jesus bidding farewell to Mary", chapels 2 to 6 show various scenes from the Mount of Olives ("Sleeping disciples", "Jesus in prayer", "Flagellation", "Jesus falls under the cross"). The seventh chapel is already visible from afar on the ridge, as are chapels eight to ten, which, although plastered on the outside, stand empty and await the renewal of the Stations of the Cross.
From the plateau at 363 m above sea level, there is a breathtaking view of the castle and the town - to Feldsberg in the east and Austria in the south.
