Donaustation Melk 8

Popis

The Melk 8 boat landing stage is located near the former Jensch ferry house; the Mole Melk restaurant is currently under construction.

Danube stations no. 8 and 31 can be reached safely and comfortably on foot from the main road or from Melk town center via the lift bridge. This bridge is used exclusively by pedestrians and cyclists, so the old town of Melk can be reached in just a few hundred meters.

The world-famous baroque Melk Abbey towers high above the Danube at the "Gateway to the Wachau". Melk has been the spiritual and cultural center of the region for more than 1000 years, first as a Babenberg castle and then from 1089 as a Benedictine monastery. To this day, the town has been able to preserve its old, cohesive townscape: romantic alleyways, Renaissance town houses, historic town towers and remains of the town wall. Culture is very important in Melk. Events such as the International Baroque Days with the Melk Whitsun Concerts and the Summer Theatre Festival are well known far beyond the Wachau region.
