Popis
Gut Hardegg, located in Seefeld-Kadolz in the northern Weinviertel near the Czech border, is a 30-hectare estate that has been organically farmed since 2006. It is owned by the Hardegg family and is managed by Maximilian Hardegg and winery manager Andreas Gruber. The vineyards, which are spread over three vineyards, are located within a radius of around eight kilometers around the baroque castle. The soils consist mainly of calcareous sedimentation and raw rock soils with a high sand content. Particular attention is paid to soil improvement, humus formation and water storage capacity. The French grape variety Viognier, which thrives on the sandy, calcareous soils, is the winery's flagship. The Viognier Sekt Brut Nature was vinified for the first time in 2019 and became a real celebrity within a few months of its market launch. The Roter Veltliner, a rare grape variety that is resistant to climate change, has received high international ratings. The winery's motto is 'living biodiversity'. Animal welfare, sustainability and a high level of biodiversity are key concerns. The creation of biotopes, ditches, hedges and windbreaks as well as the annual songbird census are important measures for landscape conservation and biodiversity in the region. In 2023, Maximilian Hardegg was awarded the Golden Medal of Honor for his outstanding services to the province of Lower Austria.
