The MALAT winery, founded in 1722 and now run by Michael Malat in the 10th generation, is one of the leading wineries in the Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German). High-quality wines, sparkling wines and sweet wines are produced on around 40 hectares of its own vineyards - exclusively from hand-picked grapes from its own vineyards.
Michael Malat pursues a clear personal wine style: he deliberately avoids artificial irrigation and relies on spontaneous fermentation without botrytis. This results in wines with elegance, finesse and drinkability, authentically characterized by the terroir of his vineyards such as Gottschelle, Pfaffenberg, Silberbichl and Steinbühel - classifications of the highest quality level in Krems Valley ("Kremstal" in German).
The range of the house includes:
Fresh, varietal white wines: Grüne Veltliner, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Muskateller and more
Strong red wines: such as Pinot Noir, Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon or St. Laurent
Austrian sparkling wines (including Malat Brut and Brut Rosé) - produced using traditional methods since 1976
Sweet wines: noble sweet specialties that regularly rank among the best in the country
