Areas and locations in the Thallern estate

South of Vienna, the Thermenregion stretches 50 kilometers in the direction of Wiener Neustadt. Bordered to the west by the slopes of the Anninger, the wine-growing region gently slopes down to the Pannonian Plain to the east. A favorable climate and a variety of fertile soils have favored viticulture in this special landscape for thousands of years. Even the Romans recognized the extraordinary potential of the region and found the perfect conditions for cultivating wine.

The Thallern estate has a total of 30 hectares of vineyards. Under the protection of the Anninger on soils of weathered brown earth and shell limestone, the grapes reach their perfect ripeness. The vineyards are cultivated in an extremely natural way, with great attention paid to biodiversity. In addition to varieties typical of the region, there are mainly Burgundy varieties.

The vineyards of Freigut Thallern extend over the two wine-growing communities of Gumpoldskirchen and Pfaffstätten. Some of the best vineyards in the region belong to the estate. They bear illustrious names such as "Wiege", "Ronald", "Alte Riede" and "Student". Around 60% white wine and 40% red wine are produced on the vineyards, as well as a small amount of sparkling wine.
Typical for the Thermenregion, both Rotgipfler and Zierfandlern can be found alongside the white wine varieties Grüne Veltliner, Riesling and Gemischter Satz. St. Laurent, Zweigelt and Pinot Noir have established themselves among the red grapes. Varieties that demand a great deal of knowledge and skill from the winegrower, but which, with the appropriate effort, produce exceptional wines of the highest quality.

The experience of visiting the vinotheque at Freigut Thallern begins as soon as you arrive. Barely a kilometer from the Bundesstraße 50 near Guntramsdorf, you pass through a viaduct and enter another world. Even visitors who have been here many times are amazed by this unique site.

The vinotheque is located in the center of the second oldest winery in Austria. The estate was handed over to the Cistercian order in the 12th century. Wine has been produced here without interruption since October 18, 1141.

The buildings on the estate tell of times long past. Under the initiative of the Polz family, a large part of the historic architectural ensemble was revitalized and renovated with a lot of heart and sweat. The vinotheque was built directly into the old wine warehouse with modern elements. Adjacent to it is the Prälatenstöckel, the former residence of the Meier. Today, this area is used for wine presentations and tastings, but also for seminars.

The proximity to Baden, Mödling and Vienna makes the winery and especially the vinotheque an attractive destination for many people.
