Heiligenkreuz

The municipality of Heiligenkreuz in the district of Baden bei Wien lies in the mountainous landscape of the Vienna Woods - in the valley of the Sattelbach stream. The municipality includes the villages of Siegenfeld, Heiligenkreuz, Sattelbach, Preinsfeld and Füllenberg. The well-known Via Sacra pilgrimage route runs through the village, which is an ideal hiking and excursion destination for the whole family.

Heiligenkreuz: visit the Cistercian abbey
Heiligenkreuz Abbey is located in a valley hollow at the foot of the Bodenberg. It was founded in 1133, making it the second oldest Cistercian monastery in the world. Guided tours of the impressive spiritual walls are available daily.

Pilgrimage hikes: On the Via Sacra through Heiligenkreuz
The Via Sacra covers a total of 121 kilometers of pilgrimage route. There are pilgrimage churches, chapels and wayside shrines along the way. The stations on the "Holy Road" naturally also include Heiligenkreuz Abbey.

Four listed statues of crouching slaves on the former cemetery wall, an old hermit's house and the Way of the Cross on the Calvary - comprising 37 valuable statues - are well worth seeing. Numerous other historical buildings and gems also characterize the townscape. In Siegenfeld, the neo-Gothic Cholera Chapel from 1831 is a particular eye-catcher: it is located above Badener Straße in the Helenental valley.
