Karlstetten
The market town of Karlstetten in the district of St. Pölten-Land lies on the south-eastern edge of the Dunkelsteinerwald forest. A total of eleven villages - such as Weyersdorf, Obermamau and Heitzing - belong to the Lower Austrian municipality in Lower Austria. In ancient times, the area belonged to the province of Noricum, and the town was first mentioned in a document in 1083. Today, Karlstetten offers plenty of space for relaxing getaways, vacations in the countryside or excursions with children. Countless hiking and walking trails lead through the municipal area - past chapels and crossroads or as a nature trail through the forest.
Karlstetten: Hiking tips for young and old
The hike from Hafnerbach to Karlstetten, which leads along the Zenobach and over the ruins of Hohenegg Castle, offers great views and is also suitable for young feet. The idyllic route from Karlstetten to Oberbergern leads over forest nature trails, sticks and stones: with exciting ant hills along the way - not just for children - as well as lovely resting places in the dense forest. Those who prefer pedaling to hiking can "experience" Karlstetten on the family-friendly Fladnitztal cycle route, for example.
Important sights in Karlstetten
In addition to several romantic wine cellar lanes, there are historical sights to be discovered - such as the Hausenbach stronghold, the parish church of St. Ulrich or the former Karlstetten Castle, which now houses the municipal office. The so-called Türkenschanze is also particularly worth seeing: the monumental prehistoric ring wall complex is located in the forest north of Hausenbach.
