Kellergasse "Alte Geringen" Ketzelsdorf
Sklepní ulička
Popis
The "Alte Geringen" wine cellar lane with 95 cellars is located in the middle of the vineyards, as was the case with the medieval tithe cellars. The site was chosen just under a kilometer from Ketzelsdorf due to the loess and clay deposits and to simplify grape harvesting and processing. As in most "villages without a chimney", the cellars in the "Alte Geringen" are arranged in a closed structure. Most of them nestle gently into the hillside of the Alte Geringen vineyard. The closer the wine cellar lane gets towards the B7 main road, the more free-standing cellars can be found - here the cellars were dug directly into the vineyards by their owners. Around two-thirds of the cellars are vaulted, the rest are only belted and most have a cellar tube and one or two side cellars. Another highlight of the Ketzelsdorfer Kellergasse is that many of the free-standing cellars have their own entrance at the back to a potato and turnip cellar.
The unmistakable charm of the Weinviertel wine cellar lanes can be experienced most impressively on a guided tour.
This provides fascinating insights into their history and the former significance of these special places.
