Kirchberg am Wechsel
Just an hour's drive from Vienna, Kirchberg am Wechsel is located in the heart of the Feistritz Valley. Kirchberg am Wechsel lies at the foot of the Wechsel, an elongated mountain ridge that is best known for its Schwaigen mountain huts. Schwaigen are farmed alpine pastures with beautiful views and good food from the region.
The fact that Kirchberg am Wechsel is a wonderful place to hike is proven by its award as a certified hiking village. In addition to good public transport connections, the village also has hotels especially for hikers. Anyone staying here will find out exactly which tours are particularly worthwhile to get to know the natural and cultural landscape of the Wechsel region. These include a visit to the Steyersberger Schwaig (1,372 m) as an entry point to the Wechsel. From here, you can hike up to the Hochwechsel or take the circular hut trail via the Kranichberger Schwaig and Feistritzer Schwaig. And in winter, cross-country skiers can access the 60 km long Wechsel panorama trail from here.
