Münchendorf
The municipality of Münchendorf in the district of Mödling lies in the Vienna Basin - with the Triesting river flowing through it. Today, nothing reminds us of the original rural street village. The town has long since developed into an attractive Viennese community with excellent infrastructure. On excursions into the Vienna Woods region, Münchendorf delights its guests with charming restaurants and wine taverns - and is a favorite swimming spot for residents and visitors in summer.
Münchendorf: bathing on the sunny side
Due to the low rainfall, the village is a popular summer bathing destination. A number of weekend house settlements have also developed around the Münchendorf bathing ponds - such as Babenbergerseen, Birkensee and Seedörfl. These settlements extend into the municipal area of Himberg.
History of Münchendorf
The area has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. In Roman times, it belonged to the province of Pannonia Superior. The place name probably originated around 800. However, the first documentary mention of "Minichdorf" is only documented in 1147. Textile factories settled here in the 19th century. Viticulture was also started. Today, many a stone witness bears witness to this long history: from archaeological Neolithic finds of a Lengyel house from 4,800 BC to the baroque-classical parish church of St. Leonhard from the late 18th century.
