Rathaus Scheibbs

Historické místo

Popis

In 1538, the citizens of Scheibbs acquired the town hall. Until then, council business was held in the house of the respective market judge, who exercised the function of a mayor today. He was assisted by eight councillors, known as jurors. Only those who owned a house in the town and practiced a trade could become councillors.

Above the entrance to the town hall is a beautiful ceramic coat of arms. King Ferdinand awarded this coat of arms to the town in 1537 in recognition of the fact that the citizens of Scheibbs had so bravely and successfully repelled the attacks of the Turks in 1529 and 1532.

Among other things, armor, weapons from the time of the peasant wars in the 16th and 17th centuries, the scepter from 1701 and the executioner's sword from 1713 as well as old torture weapons and old documents can be seen in the meeting room.
