Popis
The Steinwandklamm hiking world at 549 m above sea level is one of the most beautiful, wildest and most exciting karst gorges in Lower Austria. In spring and in summer after heavy rainfall, hikers walk through the deep gorge on bridges and steps over the thundering waterfalls of the gorge stream. The Steinwandklamm gorge was first mentioned in a document in 1884. Probably the most famous hiker through the Steinwandklamm gorge was Emperor Franz Josef, hence the saying: "We hike in the footsteps of the emperor".
The hike leads over bridges and footbridges between high rock faces from the Reischer snack station in Furth and ends after the "Türkenloch" at the Kreuthsattel.
After the Steinwandklamm gorge, you come to the Türkenloch, a cave that you hike through, before continuing on to Gasthaus-Jagasitz, at 706 m above sea level, with views of the Schneeberg. It is dark in the Türkenloch, so good shoes and a lamp are helpful here. For the brave and those with a head for heights, the Rudolf Decker Steig is an alternative climbing route. This leads over a 15-metre ladder and through the "Wildschützenloch". Inexperienced climbers and children should use a safety rope.
The Steinwandklamm gorge does not always carry water, this is due to the karst area in which it is located. The source of the gorge, the Almesbrunnberg, is located in the karst. Even when there is no water in this natural jewel, it is an experience in itself.
Especially on hot summer days, the gorge offers refreshment. Themed boards along the way provide information about the flora and fauna of the gorge.
