Detaily pro: 2-day hike on the Rax plateau

Krátký popis

Two-day hike on the Rax plateau that leads to 5 summits.

Popis

The Raxrunde is a 2-day hike on the Rax plateau. The starting point is the Raxalpen Mountain Inn right at the mountain station, which can be easily reached by cable car. On the route, we can expect beautiful peaks with breathtaking views and cozy mountain huts. The first stop is the Ottohaus, which features a 4000m² Alpine garden with about 200 alpine plants typical for the region. The hike leads over the Hohe Kanzel, along the Preiner Wall, very popular among climbers, to the Neue Seehütte, named after a small lake that seeped away shortly after World War I. Over the Trinksteinsattel and then over lush alpine meadows, you reach the Karl Ludwig House, which offers itself as a base for the two-day hike. The next goal is the Heukuppe, at 2007 meters above sea level the highest point on the Rax. Then it goes over the Grasbodenalm down to the Habsburghaus, where you can also ideally stay overnight. Fresh and lively, the journey continues over the Scheibelwaldhöhe back to the starting point at the Rax cable car mountain station.

NOTE: Please check the current opening hours of the Habsburghaus here before starting your route!

Popis trasy 2-day hike on the Rax plateau

From the mountain station of the Rax cable car, we walk slightly uphill to Praterstern and continue to the Ottohaus. From here we hike further towards Jakobskogel, over the Hohe Kanzel to the Preiner Wall (blue marking, path on the Vienna Alpine Trail). After about one kilometer of the route, we reach the Neue Seehütte. Now we ascend over the Trinkstensattel to the Predigtstuhl and follow path 01 to the Karl Ludwig House. Continuing on path 01, we hike to the Heukuppe. We cross the Heukuppe to the north and follow the red marking northeast over the Grasbodenalm and further along the green and yellow marking to the Habsburghaus.

We either stay overnight at the Karl-Ludwig-Haus or at the Habsburghaus.

The next day the path leads us from the Habsburghaus further over the Dreimarkstein and the Scheiblwaldhöhe down to the small shelter hut, Wolfgang-Dirnbacher Hut. From here we walk about 3.5 kilometers over the Höllental viewpoint back to the starting point at the mountain station.
