St. Oswald in the southern Waldviertel is known for the beautiful view of the Alps: to the north it is dominated by the Burgsteinberg (1013 m), to the south St. Oswald offers a magnificent Alpine panorama. Interesting are the mystical places like Herzstein, Totenkopfstein, Steinerne Kornmandel, etc.
The strange rock formations of the Ysper valley have always fascinated people, as numerous legends and myths prove. Their secrets have not yet been revealed. The 5 m high Herzstein - after which two circular hiking routes are named - resembles a human organ to some, while others - inclined towards geomancy and esotericism - see female shapes and life symbols here, considering the granite block a double cult stone. In any case, it is a highly interesting stop on a circuit that also leads to other curious rock formations, such as the "Totenkopf" – which can be climbed via a stairway – or the "Steinernen Kornmandel". A circuit fondly remembered.
Beautiful hike through forest and meadows with a magnificent Alpine view at the water reservoir.
