Popis
This circular route following Roman traces starts in the town center of Eichgraben, where numerous dining options await hikers. Visiting the Vienna Woods Museum located here is a first highlight. Take the opportunity to learn about Roman coins and their significance as means of communication and propaganda, as well as the biographies of the personalities depicted on them. Outside the museum, you can also admire a reconstruction of a Roman tomb from the 1st-2nd century AD. In addition to the archaeological, geological, and ethnological collection, the "Living Craft" event, where experienced professionals demonstrate their art using ancient tools, is an interesting experience for young and old alike. The tour continues along the Eichgraben high altitude trail into the forest. Along winding paths, you explore a part of the Vienna Woods biosphere reserve with its unique cultural landscape in Europe. Well-visible informational boards provide details about the Roman traffic network in this part of the empire, as well as the history of the Vienna Woods and the profession of the charcoal burner. In Finsterleiten, you have the opportunity to admire Roman-era burial mounds in the open nature. Originally there were seven burial mounds here, but due to path construction only two are still visible today. The return path to Eichgraben offers numerous views of the nearby Buchberg and the Anunziata Monastery. In summer, a detour to the Vienna Woods swimming pool is worthwhile.
