Krátký popis

The hiking stage Gedersdorf – Rohrendorf impresses with fantastic landscapes and wine as far as the eye can see: an absolute must for all sports-loving wine enthusiasts!

Popis

The hike leads through terraced vineyards from Gedersdorf to the Rohrendorf cellar lane. The impressive landscape along the route is the highlight, as the route offers not only extensive vineyards but also the best regional wines for tasting. After all, Rohrendorf near Krems is a traditional site of vine cultivation – wine has been grown there for more than 1,000 years. The Rohrendorf cellar lane is also the longest of its kind in all of Austria and attracts wine lovers from all over the world with its 72 wine presses and cellar tunnels. Therefore, it is worthwhile to visit one or the other Heuriger at the stage destination to conclude the enjoyable hike accordingly.

Provisions tip: The short distance is well suited for relaxed hikers and families with children. Once in Rohrendorf, you can refill your hiking backpack with some regional delicacies at the Nah&Frisch Markt Ebner (MO-FR 6-12:30 and 15-18 h, SA 6:30-12 h) if you decide to walk back. It is particularly recommended to enjoy a delicious snack and regional wines at one of the numerous Heuriger establishments. You can find out which Heuriger is open in the online Heuriger calendar. The more comfortable way is to return by ÖBB to the Gedersdorf station.

From Gedersdorf, we have the option to hike back to Krems via Rohrendorf or continue to Langenlois. From the town center, we walk about 500 m northwards. On the hiking route aimed at Krems, we turn left after the Rohrhofer Heuriger, past the wine press, into Leithenweg. Some well-known vineyards such as Eben, Schnabl, Neusiedeln are now on our path. Behind the Lenz Moser winery, the path leads down alongside numerous cellars to the federal road, which we have to cross to enter the center of Rohrendorf.

Tip autora

The Rohrendorf cellar lane stretches over a length of 1,650 m and is thus the longest cellar lane in Austria. Here visitors will find 72 wine presses and cellar tunnels; some cellars date back to the 14th/15th century and were dug into the soft loess soil or laboriously into the hard conglomerate rock by monasteries, abbeys, or noble houses. With a bit of luck, you can enjoy the best wines and Heuriger delicacies on a vineyard terrace with views of Göttweig at an open cellar door.
