As a more demanding and longer (2-day), but scenically very attractive variant, the Mariahilfberg-Spange connects the Vienna with the Burgenland Mariazell trail. It begins with a slowly ascending forest path leading into the valley through the Sieberlgraben and a hollow path up to the Red Cross, where there is a wonderful view out over the Vienna Basin, to Bad Vöslau and the Traisen Valley. Along the ridge, the path leads without major altitude differences through flower and orchard meadows, past Gut Hohenwarth and fallow deer, and through pastures with a nice view into the Myra Valley with its magnificent solitary rocks near Muggendorf up to the Jagasitz inn (permanently closed). Then on to the Karnerwirt (playground, dining opportunity, reservoir with trout), then the path leads along the Pernitzer Biedermeierweg with its information boards through forests and over a saddle to Gutenstein. At the municipal boundary stands a lovingly maintained wayside shrine. Through deciduous forest downhill, past the water reservoir Seegraben, it goes comfortably uphill again to Etschenberg, where we can already see our day's destination Mariahilfberg and even the Schneeberg in the distance. Over pastures and flower meadows it goes flat to the Groisbauer, then down the cool shaded path to the Panzenbach. Here a narrow lesser-known path goes up to the Biegelbauerhöhe. After a refreshing sip of fresh cow's milk from the Biegelbauer we are strengthened for the last part of the day: past the Waldbauernmuseum over the Wurzelweg along wayside shrines that depict the life of Mary, through dense beech forest to Mariahilfberg. Emerging from the forest, the view opens to the picturesque pilgrimage church standing on a small hill and the Servite monastery. The ascent alone is worth it for the fantastic panoramic view of the Schneeberg, Schober, Öhler and the Großer Neukogel, the local mountain of Gutenstein. Staying overnight at Gasthof Moser is recommended at Mariahilfberg.
As an extension, the trails "Way of the Cross at Mariahilfberg" and the round around Residenzberg can be explored at Mariahilfberg.
On the second day, we set off from Mariahilfberg towards Mamauwiese and take the path past the Magdalene Grotto to the Schaftersbach. This leads from the parking lot past the Frauenbrünnchen and a deer wallow attractively over partly wooden, partly rocky steps through a pine forest. At the signpost the Schaftersbachweg branches off and leads gently downhill over forest paths and meadows, past an idyllic house on the left opposite the signpost.
At the crossroads with the main road we turn right and follow the paved road through the picturesque, slowly narrowing valley of the Längapiesting to the valley end (Zinsensteiner). Here Schober and Öhler once again present themselves, as well as for the first time the Dürre Wand. Then it goes through an impressive gate along the forest path, first straight, then in switchbacks framed on both sides by game fences to Gobenzsattel. We follow the signs left over a short stretch of forest road, then over pleasant forest floor of a narrow wild trail to the Schober chapel and then further over the cattle pastures of the Mamaualm to the mountain inn Mamauwiese.

Day 1: Behind the Gasthaus zum Furthnerwirt we turn left after about 20m over a bridge on a wide footpath through the Sieberlgraben slowly uphill (red marking). After about 20 minutes of walking, just after the last house, we do not take the hollow path straight ahead (poorly passable after wind damage), but continue left along the forest road, keeping right at the bend (do not take the path that meets the forest road straight ahead there). After half an hour of walking, we reach the upper end of the hollow path. Following the marking (keeping left) we go briefly steeply up to the Red Cross. From there, you have a wonderful view over a large meadow towards the east. We turn right (long-distance hiking trail 01, red-white-red marking), after about 50 m follow the path to the left (attention, marking is hard to see). The wide hiking trail passes through forests and meadows without major altitude differences past Gut Hohenwarth, then meets the Piestingtal circular hiking trail 231 (red-white-red marking) and continues to Betsteig and the former Jagasitz guesthouse.
Walking time 3.5 h (half an hour later, a lunch break via the yellow marking at the Karnerwirt is recommended.)
At the Karnerwirt we walk a short stretch downhill on the road until after about 5 minutes a sloping meadow path begins on the left (a yellow arrow towards Gutenstein). We follow this path to Purbach, where it turns into a wide hiking trail. In Purbach we reach a road, which we follow downhill (turn right, "Kasperhof") to a turnaround (about 10 minutes, picnic table), there we cross a small bridge over the Purbach towards Gutenstein. The path is called Pernitzer Biedermeierweg and leads us with information boards through forests and over a saddle to Gutenstein, past the water reservoir in Seegraben. There (at a small wayside shrine) we meet the Gutensteiner Panoramaweg, which we now follow: the forest road on the right uphill to Etschenberg (view of the Mariahilfberg Church, the day's destination), then further through meadows relatively flat to Groisberg. At the farm we keep right, walk through the forest into the Panzengraben and turn left downhill there to the next farmer (Panzenbauer), where we at meadow height take the path to the right (please close the pasture gate again) over the Biegelbauerhöhe. This path leads us into the town of Gutenstein to the B21, which we follow a short way downhill to the somewhat off-to-the-left Waldbauernmuseum. From the museum we go to a bridge, cross the Piesting, and immediately after the bridge turn right to walk past Schloss Hoyos. We follow the paved road to the first side street on the left, there we turn off to the fire station and the junction to Mariahilfberg. Here we do not follow the street, but take the Piestingtal circular hiking trail 231 again, which shortly after the start of the pass road turns left. The so-called "Wurzelweg" is rather steep uphill, leads through the forest past wayside shrines depicting the life of Mary to Mariahilfberg.
Walking time from Jagasitz about 4.5 h.
Overnight stay at Mariahilfberg at Gasthof Moser.
Day 2: The next day we start at Mariahilfberg from the lower parking lot and take the Schaftersbachweg into the Längapiesting (red marking), first following the marking to the Magdalene grotto, then the path with partly wooden, partly rocky steps further to a crossroads (green signs). There we follow the sign "Längapiesting", first on a pleasant forest path, later moderately steep on a cart track and downhill over the meadow to a small, idyllic yellow house. After about 1 km we reach the main road at the crossroads (sign "Schaftersbachweg"). We turn right on the road downhill, at the next fork we turn right following the arrow "Mamauwiese". The road changes after about 15 minutes into a wide forest road, the gate there is open. Following the red marking, we reach the Gobenzsattel, from where the so-called Diebssteig (Attention: do not walk at night and walking sticks are recommended in wet conditions) leads to the Schober chapel and to Mamauwiese, where we follow the yellow signs to the Gasthof Mamauwiese (walking time about 4 h).
