Detaily pro: Wienerwald cycling route

Krátký popis

You can easily cycle through the diversity of Lower Austria on the Wienerwald cycling route covering a total of 215 kilometers. Along the way, you will encounter water, forest, and wine.

Popis

By bike, you can easily discover culture and nature all around the entire Wienerwald. Leisure cyclists plan about five days for the 215 km (with hardly any climbs) and appreciate the combination of culture and nature, always along the water.

Relaxed cycling: Beautiful route with few climbs

The route runs partly along the towpaths on the Danube bank and the Via Sacra leading to Mariazell. Along the way, you will find magnificent monasteries, romantic floodplains, bright forests, tranquil villages, and numerous hosts who are well prepared for cycling guests. The direction is usually determined by the four rivers: besides the Danube, the Wienerwald cycling route follows the Traisen, the Gölsen, the Triesting, and finally the Wiener Neustadt Canal. This promises not only few climbs (in fact, only the fourth stage has three ascents) but also cycle paths away from motor traffic.

Water, forest, and wine

Water, forest, and wine are the main characters in the Wienerwald. And on the Wienerwald cycling route, you meet the three in diverse forms. Water, as a faithful companion along 5 rivers, marks the path, refreshes tired calves at some idyllic riverside spots, and entices you on the final stage to the traditional baths of the spa town of Baden. Floodplain forests line the rides along the Danube and Traisen, then change to pre-alpine coniferous forests before Lilienfeld – the forest-richest region of Austria – and then towards Vienna become natural mixed forests again. And wine makes its presence felt in three sections: Klosterneuburg, the Traisen valley, and the thermal region are not only known for their excellent wines but also for their very distinctive Heurigen culture.
