Popis
The new viewing platform is located on the Merkersdorf circular hiking trail, near the transition from the plateau to the 120-metre deep Thaya gorge. From here, a wide view opens up over the famous circulating mountains, which were created by the deepening of the Thaya around three million years ago. Several mountain ridges and river meanders can be seen at the same time - an impressive testimony to the special geomorphology and river dynamics of the Thaya valley.
A hike of around 40 minutes is required to explore the unique panorama for yourself. The start is at the parking lot of the Kaja ruins. The direct route first leads back along the road towards Merkersdorf. Once there, you turn right and reach the fields north of Merkersdorf via a hollow path. Follow the goods road, which is also marked here as the Merkersdorf circular hiking trail, to the start of the Black Forest. Once here, it is only about five minutes along the forest path until you reach the new lookout point and are rewarded with a wonderful view. However, you can also walk the Merkersdorf circular hiking trail in the other direction and hike through the Kajabachtal valley and over the crossing and finally walk from the Thaya up a steep path to the lookout point.
Whether as a stopover on a hike, as a destination for a family outing or simply to take a break - the new lookout point is freely accessible and can be reached via well-marked paths. The combination of views, nature experience and gentle architecture makes it a place where visitors can immerse themselves in the beauty and tranquillity of the national park.
