Popis

"Art and a feeling for art should be awakened in children, the eye should become accustomed to beauty, and taste should be educated in the purest forms of art of all times."

In the years 1908 - 1909, the municipality of Berndorf built two spacious elementary and middle schools according to modern standards.
ARTHUR KRUPP had the interior, which is probably one of the most unique in the world, designed at his own expense. Each classroom was furnished in a different classical architectural style. The result was unique cultural-historical and artistic pieces - the BERNDORFER STILKLASSEN.

The schools were also provided with extensive health facilities. Arthur Krupp created the first school dental clinic in the then Austro-Hungarian monarchy and made it accessible to all pupils free of charge.

Why style classes?
An excerpt from the commemorative publication dated December 11, 1909 states:

"Art and a feeling for art should be awakened in children, the eye should become accustomed to beauty, and taste should be educated in the purest forms of art of all times."

The two architects Baurat Hans Peschl and Max Hegele were commissioned to construct the school buildings. The interior decoration was carried out by the two academic painters Franz Wilhelm Ladewig and Robert Jüttner.

The BERNDORFER STILKLASSEN are extraordinary and unique not only because of their exterior, but above all because of the design of the classrooms. The interior design of the classrooms in the primary and secondary school in Berndorf, where classes are still held today, is unique in the world. Each classroom was furnished in a different historical architectural style. Painting and architecture have created unique pieces of cultural history. The journey through the stylistic epochs begins in ancient Egypt, continues through Byzantium and ends with the Empire.

There are 12 styles in total. Like the other style classes, the Egyptian classroom has a wealth of ornamentation on the walls and ceilings. The portals are particularly well designed, such as the door to the Egyptian Study, which is a faithful replica of the false door in the burial chamber at Eimisi in Denderah in Upper Egypt. The door handle is artistically shaped like a sphinx.

Note
The primary and secondary schools are open alternately. The middle school is located at Margaretenplatz 2, the elementary school at Margaretenplatz 5 in Berndorf.
