The Vienna Woods has been awarded the UNESCO biosphere reserve label and is unique in being the only biosphere reserve on the doorstep of a city with over a million inhabitants.

Regeneration, activation, enjoyment - these three key words unite a great whole: the Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve, just outside the metropolis of Vienna. No other place promises as much calming exercise and refreshing relaxation as the lush green forest. The 105,000-hectare Wienerwald was awarded the UNESO biosphere reserve title in 2005 and is a habitat for flora and fauna that is particularly worthy of protection.
