Der Teisenhoferhof
Muzeum
Popis
This impressive building of the Thal Wachau in the center of Weißenkirchen looks back on a long history: individual remains of walls in the area of the west wing indicate that it was already in use in the 2nd half of the 13th century.
As part of the fortifications of the Weißenkirchen church, the courtyard was extended in 1542 with a Renaissance-style arcaded courtyard and two towers. The Wachau Museum is now located where crossbowmen once practiced their art. In the past two centuries, painters such as Emil Strecker, Max Suppantschitsch and Johann Nepomuk Geller discovered the beauty of the region. They have gone down in history as Wachau painters.
The Teisenhoferhof, which is now the cultural center of Weißenkirchen, serves as a venue for numerous events, including the Riesling Festival and the Wachau Festival, and offers an insight into the rich winegrowing tradition and way of life of the Wachau.
