Muzeum
Popis
This museum is dedicated to the construction of the first steam railroad in Austria in 1837 and was opened on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of "Railways in Austria" in 1987. The first railroad line in what was then the Austrian Empire was the Kaiser Ferdinand Northern Railway, which ran from Vienna to Krakow in present-day Poland. The first section was the line from Floridsdorf near Vienna to Wagram, today Deutsch-Wagram, and was opened on November 23, 1837. This date marks the beginning of the steam railway era in Austria and is therefore the birth of the railroad in Austria. Regular service between Vienna and Wagram began on January 6, 1838. From September 1, 1848, the Vienna-Krakow route was open to traffic throughout. This railroad connection was a major step towards the industrialization of the entire country. Today there are a number of historic buildings at Deutsch-Wagram station.
