Gedenkstein Jedenspeigen Dürnkrut

Historické místo

Popis

Jedenspeigen and Dürnkrut are best known for the battle between Rudolf I of Habsburg and Bohemian King Ottokar II in 1278. Ottokar was defeated here, initiating the rise of centuries of Habsburg rule and thus decisively influencing the fate of Central Europe.

Today, this memorial stone between Jedenspeigen and Dürnkrut commemorates this fateful Austrian battle. The 6 meter high granite stone was designed in 1978 by the academic sculptor Carl Hermann and is clearly visible from the main road. Information and exhibitions on the battle can be found in the castles of Jedenspeigen (battle documentation) and Dürnkrut (castle chapel, Sala Terrena, battle diorama, castle museum).
