Popis

The "House of Gmünd Contemporary History" presents the history of the Gmünd refugee camp, one of the largest camps in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, as well as the development of the border and the "Iron Curtain" region. In addition to many exhibits, the exhibition takes a look at people's lives in the 20th century, traces upheavals and new beginnings, and also commemorates the over 30,000 refugees who died during the First World War. Historical material from the Filmarchiv Austria and the ORF, as well as excerpts from the Universum History documentary about Gmünd, impressively underline the significance of Gmünd's contemporary history.
