Location of the church:
On a small hill on the southern edge of the village, on the foundation walls of a Roman fort.
History:
The church in Höflein was built around 100 years after Bishop Ulrich's death. The parish has probably existed since 1381, but there is no information about this. It was originally a branch church of Petronell and became an independent parish around 1544. It was around this time that the patronage of the Höflein church was transferred from the abbots of Göttweig to the Petronell estate. Höflein remained a patronage parish of the Counts of Abensperg and Traun, the former owners of the manor, until 1968.
Exterior:
Both the church and the cemetery wall are made of many Roman materials. There are no records of the construction of the church, but the beginnings of the church building can still be seen in the Romanesque masonry of the presbytery. The Gothic defense tower with its octagonal top and pyramid helmet was destroyed by shelling in 1945 and rebuilt by the congregation in 1947/48 according to old plans; four bells were also purchased at the same time. The tracery windows are of early Gothic origin.
