Pfarrkirche Katzelsdorf

Historické místo, Kostel

Popis

A late Gothic church, built as a Franciscan church at the suggestion of St. John Capistran under Johann Sigismund von Weißpriach in 1458. Consecrated in 1462, dedicated to St. Radegundis. The former Franciscan monastery was a worthwhile target for enemy attacks and was therefore fortified as a strong house. The Turks in particular were cruel to the inhabitants, as frescoes in the cloister show (access via the monastery gate). In 1783, Katzelsdorf became a parish in its own right when it was separated from Lanzenkirchen and this church became the parish church. The church has a single nave, a ribbed vault and two early Baroque side chapels.
The interior is late baroque. The statue of the Virgin Mary on the high altar dates from the 14th century. On the south side of the parish church is St. Anna's Chapel, dating back to 1360.
