Schloss Weitra

The magnificent Renaissance castle houses a castle museum, the Beer Experience, the Iron Curtain, changing special exhibitions and a store with regional products. From the tower you have a magnificent view over the countryside.

More than 800 years of history of the town and castle of Weitra await you in the lovingly designed castle museum. From the Kuenringers to the current owners, the Fürstenberg family, the historical arc of works of art and exhibits spans the entire history of the castle. It also provides an insight into the crafts and regional economic history of the Waldviertel.

In the newly designed Beer Experience at Weitra Castle, visitors can learn about the different raw materials and brewing processes of the past and present. The backdrop is provided by the remains of the 700-year-old wall of Kuenringerburg Castle.

The exhibition "Scene of the Iron Curtain" shows the dramatic events of the division of Europe into East and West at the end of the Second World War until the fall of the Iron Curtain.

Discover the exceptionally beautiful palace theater, which was adapted in rococo style in 1883. Try out the Whispering Room, which is not only decorated with rich wall and ceiling paintings, but also has a vaulted ceiling.

The Schloss Weitra Festival takes place every year in the covered inner courtyard with its impressive funnel-shaped umbrellas. Cabaret and concert events also enchant audiences and illuminate the castle courtyard.
