Popis

Jedenspeigen Castle in the eastern Weinviertel on the Austrian-Slovak border was the scene of an eventful history. Built in the 12th century and continuously expanded over the course of history, the castle is best known for the Battle of Marchfeld in 1278. Today, the castle and the surrounding grounds form the cultural center of the municipality and are known beyond Jedenspeigen for a variety of events, festivals and exhibitions.

Exhibition: Battle & Fate Jedenspeigen 1278 - the focal point of Central Europe

The exhibition "Battle & Fate - Jedenspeigen 1278 at the focal point of Central Europe" documents the conflict between the Habsburg Rudolf I and the Přemyslid Ottokar II. For a short time in 1278, the focal point of Europe was located here, between Dürnkrut and Jedenspeigen: one of the largest knightly battles of the European Middle Ages, in which around 60,000 fighters faced each other, was to decide the future of the entire continent. Rudolf I emerged victorious and was able to secure the supremacy of the Habsburgs for centuries to come. The exhibition documents this important history in nine thematically arranged rooms. Using a variety of objects, paintings and installations, "Battle & Fate" tells the story of the events leading up to the battle, the confrontation and escalation as well as the consequences of the battle. Here, the fateful battle is brought back to life and brought tangibly into the present.
