An unforgettable experience for children aged 4 and over and adults!
The Allander stalactite cave is located in the 476 m high Buchberg and has been declared a natural monument. It was developed by a pioneer battalion from Klosterneuburg and opened as a show cave in 1928. Well-known scientists carried out their research here.
The cave is 70 m long and 12 m deep, the rock gate is about 3 x 3 m in size. The passages are up to 12 m high. It has by far the richest stalactite decoration of all the caves in the Vienna Woods: Water vents, leaching niches, pearl sinter, mountain milk and ceiling cones can be seen, as well as pieces of bone from brown bears.
Roots of above-ground plants penetrate through the rock joints in the cave ceiling. The proximity of the surface favors a rich underground life: There are cave grasshoppers, butterflies, cave spiders, weavers and other animals. The Buchberg was already inhabited in prehistoric and early historical times. Excavations have unearthed objects made of antler, bone, stone and clay, as well as the occasional bronze and iron object.
We warmly welcome you to the Allander stalactite cave, which has been equipped with a modern lighting system and multimedia components. Once again this year, discover new aspects of the cave and let the multimedia impressions take effect on you.
