On the first day, the 2-day hike leads from Raach am Hochgebirge via Maria Schutz to the Semmering. On the second day, you take the railroad hiking trail to Breitenstein.

The long-distance beginners' tour over the Semmering starts in the small village of Raach am Hochgebirge. The route leads via the Schanzkapelle chapel to Maria Schutz, the famous place of pilgrimage. A short visit to the basilica and a refreshment break with the famous Klosterkrapfen from the Kirchenwirt are well worthwhile before the final climb of the day up the Semmering. After an overnight stay in the climatic health resort, the hike leads along the railroad hiking trail along the UNESCO World Heritage Semmering Railway to Breitenstein. Many panoramic views of viaducts and tunnels with the Rax and Schneeberg in the background round off the tour on the second day.

Popis trasy 2-day long-distance hiking tour for beginners over the Semmering
Day 1:
From Raach am Hochgebirge, hike downhill towards Schlagl. Follow the road towards Schanzkapelle. At the end of the road, a forest path continues uphill until you reach the Schanzkapelle chapel. From here it is downhill until you reach the Göstritz intermediate access point from the Semmering Base Tunnel construction site. Now follow the path uphill to Maria Schutz.
The Maria Schutz pilgrimage site invites you to rest before continuing on to the Semmering. Walk through the village and take the forest path behind the fire station towards Semmering. You pass the Ostermannkreuz and walk through the Myrtengraben. At the end of the forest path you come to the Sporthotel am Semmering. Continue along the road to get directly to the village of Semmering and thus to the accommodation and inns.
Day 2:
The second day starts with a walk along the Hochstraße, past summer resort villas, grand hotels and the Hochstraße Museum with showcases on the history of Semmering. You will also see the historic Südbahnhotel and the famous Kurhaus. Follow the signs to the Doppelreiter viewing platform. You will also pass the Semmering Sculpture Park.
Once you reach the lookout point, you have a unique view of the Semmering Railway line and the surrounding mountains. You now continue along the railroad hiking trail to the famous 20-Schilling view. Along the route to Breitenstein, you can explore the architectural and technical masterpiece of the Semmering Railway, watch the trains and enjoy magical views.
Once you arrive in Breitenstein, there is a short climb to Breitenstein station.
The route can be extended for experienced walkers: start your hike in Kirchberg am Wechsel and walk over the Ramssattel to Raach am Hochgebirge. At the end of the hike, you have the option of continuing along the railroad hiking trail to Payerbach (+ approx. 12 km) or Gloggnitz (+ approx. 11 km).

From Vienna, take the A2 Südautobahn onto the S6 Semmering-Schnellstraße and take the Gloggnitz exit. Continue straight ahead and then turn left towards Kirchberg am Wechsel. Follow the country road and turn left in Schlagl towards Raach.
From Graz, take the S6 Semmering expressway and exit at Goggnitz. Continue straight ahead and then turn left towards Kirchberg am Wechsel. Follow the country road and in Schlagl turn left towards Raach.
Travel by train to Gloggnitz station. From there, bus line 367 runs to "Raach am Hochgebirge Ortsmitte".
The RUFbus Semmering-Rax takes you individually to 130 stops in the region if you want to shorten the hiking tour.

Return journey:
From Breitenstein station, take the train to Gloggnitz and then the 367 bus to Raach am Hochgebirge.
