The hike to Breitenstein begins with an ascent through the Hollensteingraben. The biggest difference in altitude is overcome at the Talhof- from here, the trail leads along the ridge of the Luckerten Wand with its great views. At an altitude of over 1,000 meters, there are impressive views of the surrounding landscape. Above Orthof, the steady descent to Breitenstein begins, where impressive viaducts and buildings from the historic Semmering Railway catch the eye.

Popis trasy From the Prein to Breitenstein
We start at the Hotel Raxalpenhof, where the road branches off into the Hollensteingraben. We follow this in a south-westerly direction
until a yellow-marked forest road branches off to the left in the direction of Thalhof. Via the Stiegerin hunting lodge, we finally reach the Thalhof via a saddle. From here, we take the forest road furthest to the left, which leads slightly uphill along the upper edge of the meadow and after a ridge in a few hairpin bends to the saddle below the Luckerten Wand. From here we head east either over the ridge of the Luckerten Wand (first red, then green), or below (directly from the saddle) on an old road to the Orthof. From here we take the road (right) to Breitenstein station.

From Vienna , take the A2 Südautobahn to the S6 Semmering-Schnellstraße and take the Gloggnitz exit. Continue on the B27 to Reichenau and then take the L135 towards Prein an der Rax.
From Graz , take the S6 Semmering expressway and take the Gloggnitz exit. Continue on the B27 to Reichenau and then take the L135 towards Prein an der Rax.
Travel by train to Payerbach- Reichenau station. From there, the 342 bus runs to Prein an der Rax to the bus stop "Prein an der Rax Ortsmitte".
Alternatively, you can book an individual trip with the RUFbus Semmering-Raxwhich will take you to the starting point.
