This beautiful, challenging summit hike starts at the turquoise green Erlaufsee on the Lower Austrian side of the lake. The path leads past Lindenhof and along a forest trail to the Erlauf spring – where moss-covered stones and a gorge forest exude a fairy-tale charm.
Continuing along the path, after a demanding ascent, you reach the Brunnsteinalm and via a forest road the Brachalm. Here you are impressed by a unique view of the Ötscher!
One last steep ascent remains to be mastered before you get a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountain world from the summit of the Gemeindealpe.

By car, Erlaufsee can be reached from the metropolitan areas of the cities Vienna, Linz, and Graz in about 2 hours, from St. Pölten in about 1 hour.
Parkování
There are sufficient parking spaces on the southern shore of the lake and in the forest above the recreational area – a fee is charged during the season.
From St. Pölten the Mariazellerbahn goes directly to Mitterbach at Erlaufsee and further to Mariazell. The travel time from St. Pölten to Mariazell is about 2.5 hours.
