Detaily pro: Jakobsweg Mostviertel: 3rd stage: from Wallsee to Mauthausen

Krátký popis

The "green" third stage of the Jakobsweg in the Mostviertel leads us from the banks of the Danube up to Strengberg and further through the typical Mostviertel landscape with four-sided farmsteads and fruit trees up to St. Pantaleon-Erla. We walk mostly on lonely paths and through fields along the riparian forests of the Danube and finally arrive in the livelier area around Pyburg/Mauthausen at the end of our stage.

Popis

The first kilometers on stage No. 3 of the Jakobsweg Mostviertel from Wallsee-Sindelburg to Mauthausen are covered along the idyllic old Danube arm path. Right at the beginning of the path, we pass a monument in honour of Saint Jacobus, patron saint of hikers and pilgrims. The calmness at the Danube, the untouched nature, and the beautiful view of the still somewhat distant Strengberg make this path a real special feature. However, at Rohrmühle we leave the old arm path and continue "inland" on the Mostviertel circular hiking trail. We reach Kleinhaag, Limbach and finally Strengberg with the Johannes Nepomuk Chapel, the parish church Mariä Himmelfahrt and the historic post building. We cross the town heading west and continue hiking in a relatively sparsely populated area. For some time we follow the riparian area of Grünau and thus reach Erla and the Benedictine nuns' collegiate church located here. It goes downhill further to the parish church St. Pantaleon in the eponymous village and then through Marksee and Arthof over the Enns canal to Pyburg. From Pyburg it is only a short distance to the town centre of Mauthausen, located directly on the Danube. In Mauthausen itself, one can visit, for example, the parish church of Saint Nicholas situated on a hill, which is dedicated to the patron saint of boatmen and hauliers due to its direct proximity to the Danube.

Popis trasy Jakobsweg Mostviertel: 3rd stage: from Wallsee to Mauthausen

From the town centre of Wallsee we go down to the old Danube arm. We follow the hiking trail westwards up to the Rohrmühle farmstead, turn left and shortly afterwards turn right between the buildings and hike past the hamlets Kleinhaag and Limbach to Strengberg. Now we walk a short section west on the B1 and turn right at the first opportunity into a street leading to the Buch farmstead. Then we join the Danube Heights circular hiking trail 452, whose blue-white markings accompany us almost continuously to Mauthausen. Passing Thürnbuch and the farming settlements Mayerhofen and Schiffmühle, we come to the road to St. Pantaleon-Erla.
Here we meet the Danube cycle path, on which we head west first to Erla and then to St. Pantaleon. We leave St. Pantaleon heading west, pass the hamlets Marksee and Arthof, cross the Enns canal before Pyburg and go under the railway onto the street that leads us right to the Danube bridge. Over the Danube bridge we come directly to Mauthausen.
