The hike on the Fürnberg Post Road, built around 1780, leads over bridges aesthetically adapted to the landscape. We recommend this hike for people who want to walk on historic paths.
Popis
The Fürnberg Post Road is a unique example in Austria of an 18th-century street largely preserved in its original form. For viewing the well-preserved bridge over which the hiking path runs, it is recommended to briefly leave the path for a few meters. The Sweden Cross is located on the hiking path.
Worth seeing:
Pöggstall Castle - in 2017 it was the venue of the Lower Austria State Exhibition "All That Is Right" - housing a museum on legal history including the only "original" torture chamber and a documentation of the life and work of the artist Franz Traunfellner. The special exhibition "Pöggstall Castle - between region and imperial court" in the barbican also tells exciting stories about the eventful restoration, significant discoveries, and astonishing stories about the castle lords. A 3D animation vividly shows how the bergfried or later castle grew from its original design to its current form.
Besides Pöggstall Castle with its barbican (rondel), also worth seeing are the very old St. Anna church in the field (1140), the parish church of Pöggstall, and the pilgrimage church in Neukirchen (1118) on the Ostrong, which is older as a pilgrimage church than Maria Taferl.
Leisure tips:
4 tennis courts, beach volleyball court, football field, a covered multisport facility, playgrounds, campsite, mountain bike and cycling routes, fishing and riding opportunities, Laas stud farm, Texas Longhorn Austria, Hotglass Atelier Faffelberger, Kräuterhof Schrammel, branding art by Josef Mitmasser.

Popis trasy Old Post Road Path No. 63 - Pöggstall
From the main square, the path leads you through the barbican of Pöggstall Castle to the castle pond, towards Sading, gently ascending to the junction at the originally preserved Old Post Road. This section was built in the 1780s by Josef Edler von Fürnberg from Melk to Gutenbrunn. This part includes two beautifully vaulted stone bridges. Also worth seeing is the restored wayside shrine, the Sweden Cross. Branching off from the Post Road, a forest and meadow path leads you to Bergern, from where you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the pre-Alps. In front of Bergern on the left side stands a very old oak tree. The return route runs via the Traunfellnerweg (No. 64) and the Lebensweg “22er” back to Pöggstall.
