Detaily pro: Upper Austria Mariazellerweg: B: 3rd Stage: Steyr - Maria Neustift

Krátký popis

On the king stage of the Mariazell Pilgrimage Trail, we can expect a hike in the untouched nature of the Kalkalpen National Park, completely away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In the southeast of Steyr, we pilgrimage to Dam- and Schwarzberg, repeatedly enjoying wonderful views all around and letting ourselves be inspired by the seclusion of this mystical area. At an altitude of 1000 meters (the highest point of today's stage), we reach Spadenberg and later Geierkogel, then hike downhill to Maria Neustift.

Popis

From the historic town of Steyr, we begin our third stage at the Schönauer Bridge and cross the Enns to reach its east bank, where we then hike southwards along the Bergerweg lined with villas. At St. Ulrich, we see the tower of the local parish church on the right and then turn off Rahoferstraße into the beautiful beech forest. We pass through a settlement and start our relatively strenuous mountain section to the Schoiber inn. From this inn, located below Damberg, the local mountain of Steyr, we enjoy a wonderful view down to Steyr and follow pleasant forest paths following the signposts towards Schwarzberg. The forest opens up again and again, granting the pilgrim a dreamy view in all directions. We cross lush green clearings, walk through light beech forest, admire the large wind turbines of Plattenberg, and finally enter the Kalkalpen National Park (Ennstal region) at Spadenberg. Here we follow a ridge path lined with beeches on the left and spruces on the right up to the summit of Spadenberg at 1000 meters altitude, and then steeply downhill to a chapel with a rest area. We have to muster our strength once more to overcome Geierkogel (886 m), but after that, it becomes more relaxed and we continue hiking steadily downhill to Maria Neustift.
