Großhofen
Due to its small population, Großhofen is the smallest independent municipality in Lower Austria. The area covers around six square kilometers. The village is located in the district of Gänserndorf in the Marchfeld. It was first mentioned in a document in 1316 and the village chapel of St. Laurentius stands in the middle of the village.
The municipality causes a stir throughout Austria, especially during elections: After all, it has the highest voter turnout in the country. Experience has shown that the election results - which are regularly available in Großhofen in the morning - often reflect national trends.
