Popis

The pilgrimage route of the classic Mariazell path leads us in eight daily stages from Linz/Pöstlingberg to Mariazell. Via St. Florian, Steyr, Maria Neustift, Waidhofen an der Ybbs, Maria Seesal, Lackenhof and Mitterbach we reach Mariazell.

Anyone who wants to pilgrim from Pöstlingberg to the "Magna Mater Austriae" in Mariazell should prepare well and plan the route exactly. After all, over 170 kilometers must be covered and very alpine terrain is partly traversed. The highest point is the Ötscher, whose summit does not have to be climbed directly, but the Riffelsattel with an altitude of 1,283 meters also poses a physical challenge.

Bezpečnostní informace

In April and May, residual snow must still be expected. Walking through the alpine landscapes requires a certain familiarity with nature and potential dangers, especially regarding weather and orientation. In case of thunderstorms, one must remember in time to find shelter and protection. The maps and guides suggested in the appendix should definitely be used. A mobile phone (with a charger for recharging in accommodations) should also definitely be taken on the pilgrimage. Based on the lengths and elevation profiles, the routes of the pilgrimage can be individually composed. It is important to consider beforehand how many kilometers can be managed per day, and the stages must be planned in advance. Please also check the availability of accommodations by phone in advance! Here you can also use the local tourist offices (consider opening hours!).

This pilgrimage was put together in seven stages. The final stage was shortened so that the morning mass in Mariazell can be attended.
