Filialkirche zur Hl. Corona
Kostel
Popis
The church was built before 1500 by the then owners of Leiben, the Lapitz family.
The church of Leiben rises above the village of Leiben at around 355 meters with a magnificent view of the Alpine foothills. Construction of St. Corona's Church began at the end of the 15th century under Andreas von Lappitz, the lord of Leiben, and was completed before 1500.
The vault of the late Gothic, two-aisled building was not completed until 1593. There are two crypts underneath the church, which served as a royal burial place. Today they are empty and closed. The mighty, square tower burnt down after being struck by lightning in 1922. When it was rebuilt, the roof was given its current domed shape. The church was originally also dedicated to St. Ulrich. The three altars are made of wood, polychromed and worked in the cartilage style.
